The Gap Between Good AI Answers and Useful Work
The more we work with AI, the more we see a gap between getting a good answer and getting useful work done.
Today’s models are remarkably good at researching markets, summarizing studies, running calculations, building presentations, and writing content. Much of the information they need is already available online.
But ask an AI to act as your personal assistant or as a member of your team, and a different challenge emerges:
It needs to understand how you work.
Your preferences. Your priorities. Your definition of a good outcome. The exceptions you make. The decisions you have already taken, and why.
Most of that knowledge isn’t on the internet. Often, it isn’t documented anywhere.
I’ve found that even when an AI remembers previous conversations, that doesn’t automatically give it a reliable, complete understanding of your business. Remembering a detail and retrieving the right detail at the right moment are different capabilities.
We understand this with people. An experienced new employee still needs onboarding, access to relevant information, feedback, and time to learn.
Yet we often expect AI to understand the job almost immediately.
You can accelerate that learning by working through processes together, explaining preferences, and correcting mistakes. But a chat window alone can only take you so far.
The AI Needs a System Around It
A system that connects authorized data sources, preserves business definitions and preferences, controls access, and supplies relevant facts when they are needed. Access to email, calendars, financial information, or business platforms must be explicitly authorized and scoped.
How We Apply This at Storita
This has shaped how we build Storita for online stores.
Rather than asking Claude to gather and reinterpret everything from scratch with every question, we use a supporting system connected through MCP to collect data from all data platforms, control accesses, preserve preferences, run defined calculations, and trigger checks as conditions change.
The model can then explain findings and help prioritize action using a more consistent foundation.
Done well, this approach can improve response speed, reduce repeated processing and token costs, and leave less room for guesswork.
Learning the nuances of a business still takes time. Connected data doesn’t eliminate that work, and better context doesn’t guarantee a correct answer.
But our experience has convinced us that the system surrounding the model matters enormously.
That is where we have focused much of our work at Storita: giving AI the context, business logic, and boundaries it needs to become useful in the daily work of running a store.
